BI Learning

In this page I will try to list various ways that you can get you started with Business Intelligence.

Note - updates in progress ( list is not comprehensive)

Intern/Student

If you are looking for practical experience, best way from my point of view is to get into a BI Team, in any company, in any position (including intern positions) and learn from seniors (BI Professionals) while working on real project. Use the opportunity to learn from the team while you also contribute to the team.

PublicBI ORBIT

If above is not an option then look for below listed alternatives

Have a look at PublicBI ORBIT, first of its kind, On the project Role-based Business Intelligence Training program. I have personally designed this training program seeing the current gap in the market.

Books

If you are only looking for reading about BI or Data Warehousing to increase knowledge, these below books should be helpful, the list is not comprehensive

  • Data warehouse fundamentals by paulraj ponniah
  • The Data Warehouse Toolkit: The Complete Guide to Dimensional Modeling by Ralph Kimball

German university courses

These universities provide courses in Data and Analytics

  • TUM - Data Engineering and Analytics
  • Mannheim University - Mannheim Master in Data Science
  • LMU - ESG Data Science - LMU Munich
  • HNU - HNU - Hochschule Neu-Ulm

Others

IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) offers courses on Business Analytics and Intelligence.

Certifications

One of the most reputed Business Intelligence certification is CBIP (Certified Business Intelligence Professional) by TDWI.  See use of CBIP for more details.

BI software vendor training

Another place where you can get some training is from BI vendors. Most of the companies conduct either webinars or in-person trainings. For example Microstrategy has introduced free Jump start programs across many locations. Check Analytics Education Courses and BI Certifications

From Microstrategy site - Jump Start is a free five-day program designed to give every analytics user a foundation of knowledge to be successful with MicroStrategy. It’s a unique opportunity to quickly build practical skills and explore the latest platform features. Whether you’re just getting started, an experienced user, or just curious if MicroStrategy is right for your organization, this is the program for you.
